Further Information:
Purchased in 2019 from a well-known Melbourne store as a used unit. Very happy with it but after a few months, CDs would stop playing intermittently during playback. I was advised it was the microswitch and a tiny dob of araldite on top of the pin (to lengthen it) should fix the problem. Unfortunately some of the glue ran down the pin and fixed it in place (VERY STRESSFULL!! Araldite is both runny and invisible). I sent it to Melbourne to be fixed which loosened the pin up but soon after the intermittent issue continued. I then ordered a new microswitch ($45) and this was replaced by a tech in Hobart. The unit worked flawlessly for the next 3 years, as a CD player, DAC for my streamer of the time, and then as a transport when I bought a standalone DAC in 2022. In recent months it has stopped playing CDs (DISC ERROR) and I had it checked out to see if the microswitch was still OK. It is still OK so I’m thinking a replacement laser mechanism is required (I was quoted $790). I can’t justify this and am getting great results with my old Denon 3905 as a transport so am putting the Ayon up for sale thinking it might be a straightforward fix for someone handy, and it works well as a DAC with volume control.
The unit presents well but there are some tiny scratches in the internal ‘dish’ around the pin, plus a couple of very minor chips in the paint along the front/top edge as you run your finger along (see pics). Three small marks on the remote control have been touched up by black marker. Original double box so shipping is an option.
