Further Information:
I have for sale my fabulous VPI – TNT2 turntable.
It looks stunning and exudes presence with a chassis made from two layers of 1” black acrylic chemically welded together.
The corners are solid Delrin, machined out to mount on the chassis with damped springs internally. Leveling is done by rotating the corner knobs on top.
The motor has been updated to a brand new and more desirable, lower noise, lower vibration, 300 rpm motor as used on the Scoutmaster, Aries2, TNT6 and HRX turntables. The motor is driven by a SDS power supply/controller to set the speed accurately. A new motor pulley of the appropriate size has been fitted to accurately match the motor speed and platter and has had only 11 hours of use since updating (see photos).
Utilising the included VPI SDS controller, changing platter speed between 33 and 45 is simply done with the press of a button with precise fine speed adjustment capability. (more information below).
The VPI SDS Synchronous Drive System Speed Control Device Provides Dead-On-Accurate Speed for Perfect Timing and Lowest-Possible Wow and Flutter.
I have used several different drive belts with this turntable and the most accurate, and the one that I prefer, is the Well-Tempered polyester thread belt. There is absolutely no speed drift at all using the SDS and the Well-Tempered drive belt. I do have some original VPI drive belts which will be included.
The turntable is fitted with the well regarded 9” VPI Memorial tonearm. In my opinion this confidence inspiring tonearm of aluminium and stainless-steel construction is far more substantial and trouble free than the 3D printed models.
The spindle thrust bearing has been replaced with a ceramic ball and the old rulon thermoplastic spindle bearings have been replaced with Teflon. (see photos).
There is absolutely no play in the spindle evidenced by the fact that when replacing the spindle oil it took several hours for the spindle to take itself down to its correct position. The platter spins silently almost forever, testament to the improvement that these changes have made.
I will include two brand new blank acrylic armboards. They are not drilled, so other tonearms of choice could be experimented with if the new owner chooses.
The turntable is being sold without cartridge although I could do a deal on a Nagaoka MP500 cartridge with less than 50 hours use if there is interest in this.
Pictures show a Grado Signature 8 cartridge, however, a Benz Micro Glider cartridge is currently fitted to the turntable, but is not included in the sale (It is basically brand new having only 11 hours on it).
This turntable is both very large and very heavy, so local pickup would be preferred, or I may be able deliver to Melbourne suburbs, or perhaps a little further out within reason. The dimensions are Width 630mm x Depth 480mm x Height 170mm.
The custom-made acrylic cover and wooden base are included. Unfortunately, the acrylic cover does have a couple of minor scratches on it. It was received during Covid and came that way from the fabricator. It was too difficult to follow up at the time, so I just accepted it as it is.
Audition is welcome and recommended for serious buyers.
I also have a Kuzma Ref2 with 11” 4Point tonearm for sale.
Please PM me directly with your interest.
About the VPI SDS
Designed to vastly improve the performance of any VPI turntable, the VPI Synchronous Drive System Speed Control Device (SDS) combines a turntable motor speed controller and an AC line isolator into a compact component that yields vital enhancements to the overall analog sound. Simply plug your VPI turntable into SDS and hear the improvements a proper motor drive creates: Solid and deeper bass, smoother midrange, sweeter highs, lower noise floor, and deeper imaging. SDS allows for proper calibration of platter speed, ensuring that your VPI 'table spins at a constant speed and, after calibration, operates at the correct speed. In addition, SDS provides individual speed corrections for LPs and 45s in increments as small as 0.01Hz. Such fine-tuning affords the listener the ability to truly "dial-in" the performance of any VPI turntable.
How SDS Works, and What It Does
SDS breaks new ground in clean, accurate power delivery via advanced digital technology and quartz crystal accuracy. It allows for the adjustment of both the voltage and frequency fed to the turntable motor. Adjustments are easily made from the front panel using intuitive, soft-touch controls. The selected output voltage and frequency are shown using large, legible LED displays. SDS slowly ramps the voltage and frequency up or down to the selected value in order to prevent premature motor wear due to abrupt changes. During motor startup, SDS increases its output voltage in order to quickly bring the platter up to speed. Once the desired platter speed is reached, SDS ramps the output voltage down in order to reduce motor vibration and, therefore, the system's noise floor.
Removes Voltage Spikes, Fluctuations, RFI, and Frequency Variations
The circuit used in SDS provides an incredibly accurate line frequency of great stability. Additionally, the electronic circuitry effectively isolates the output voltage from the input voltage, doing away with voltage spikes, low level fluctuations, RFI, and frequency variations. Instead of merely filtering the power line, SDS first converts it to pure DC voltage and then digitally regenerates its own clean AC signal. This approach is superior to that used in many of the other power line conditioners on the market.
Works With All AC Synchronous Motors in VPI 'Tables
SDS is designed to work with the AC synchronous motors in VPI turntables. The speed of a synchronous motor is determined by the frequency it is fed. Logically, a device whose speed is based on the AC line frequency will function better when a stable consistent frequency is delivered. Constant motor speed translates into a quieter, more faithful musical presentation
