Further Information

Reluctantly for sale is a Yamaha A1 integrated amplifier. It’s in reasonably good cosmetic condition (taking into account the age of the amp). The Yamaha A1 is built like a tank. These amplifiers rarely come up for sale and for good reason. When the amp was reviewed back in the late 1970s, Australian Hifi’s Stereo Buyers Guide said the A1 was a bargain at its selling price. Even today, it outperforms most or the new integrated amplifiers selling for several times the price the Yamaha sold for in Australia. The amp runs quiet, is reliable, really well built and has an excellent phonostage. It is sweet, open, spacious, smooth with plenty of detail and a deep, wide and precise sound stage. In my listening experience it is natural sounding throughout with good ambience, deep and powerful bass, transparent midrange and treble. There is some dust in the pictures and a few dents and the odd scratch. It is black in colour and still works very well considering it came out in the late seventies.

The cons: This amplifier works fine but the bottom flap which hid the controls is missing. The bulbs for the “power”, “speakers” and “disc” buttons are no longer working but I think you could find new bulbs or LEDs to replace them. I would prefer local pickup but if no takers I would be prepared to ship.
